Description:

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is an aromatic perennial herb with silvery-green, velvety leaves. It's native to the Mediterranean region and has been used for centuries for its culinary and medicinal properties. Sage plants typically grow 1-2 feet tall and wide, with woody stems and fragrant foliage.

Soil and Planting:

  • Soil: Sage prefers well-drained, sandy or rocky soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
  • Planting: Plant sage in full sun or partial shade. Space plants 18-24 inches apart. Water deeply and infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.

Growth:

Sage is a hardy plant that can tolerate drought and cold temperatures. It's a slow-growing herb that can live for many years. To encourage bushy growth, prune sage plants in the spring.
