Description:
Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) is an evergreen shrub with fragrant, needle-like leaves. It is native to the Mediterranean region and is prized for its culinary and medicinal uses. Rosemary plants can grow up to 5 feet tall and wide, with a woody base and upright stems. The leaves are typically dark green, but can also be silver-gray or variegated.
Soil and Planting:
- Soil: Rosemary prefers well-drained, sandy or rocky soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
- Planting: Plant rosemary in full sun or partial shade. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart. Water deeply and infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
Growth:
Rosemary is a slow-growing plant that can live for many years. It is drought-tolerant and can withstand some frost. To encourage bushy growth, prune rosemary plants in the spring.
