Description:

  • Size: Large deciduous tree, typically reaching 70-90 feet tall with a spread of 40-50 feet.
  • Leaves: Unique, four-lobed shape resembling a tulip, hence the common name. They are green in summer and turn golden-yellow in fall.
  • Flowers: Large, tulip-shaped flowers with yellow-green petals and orange bands at the base. They bloom in spring.
  • Bark: Smooth and gray when young, becoming furrowed and gray-brown with age.
  • Fruits: Cone-like clusters of winged seeds that mature in the fall.

Planting:

  • Sunlight: Full sun is essential for optimal growth.  Hardiness zones 4-9.
  • Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil but can tolerate a range of soil types.
  • Spacing: Plant trees at least 40-50 feet apart to accommodate their mature size.

Growing:

  • Growth Rate: Fast-growing, adding 2-3 feet per year.
  • Water: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, they are drought-tolerant.
  • Fertilization: Generally not required, but can benefit from a slow-release fertilizer in early spring.
  • Pruning: Prune young trees to develop a strong central leader and remove any crossing or weak branches.

Uses:

  • Ornamental Tree: Highly valued for its beautiful flowers, unique leaves, and striking fall color. It is often used as a specimen tree or in parks and gardens.
  • Timber: The wood is lightweight and soft, used for furniture, cabinetry, and pulpwood.
  • Wildlife Habitat: Provides food and shelter for various wildlife species, including squirrels, birds, and bees.

Cautions:

  • Size: The large size of mature trees makes them unsuitable for small spaces.
  • Roots: The aggressive root system can damage sidewalks, driveways, and underground pipes.
  • Weak Wood: The wood can be brittle and susceptible to breakage, especially in strong winds or heavy snow.
  • Disease and Pests: Can be susceptible to various diseases and pests, including canker diseases and aphids.

By carefully considering these factors, you can successfully plant and care for a Tulip Tree and enjoy its beauty and benefits.

The aloe vera plant is a succulent plant species of the genus Aloe. It is well known for its medicinal properties and is commonly used in traditional medicine and cosmetics.

  • Gel: The leaves contain a clear gel that is widely used for its soothing and healing properties.
  • Flowers: In spring and summer, aloe vera may produce tall spikes of yellow or orange flowers.

Get 12 Egyptian Walking onions bulbs.  They will reproduce on their own. That is why they are called walking onions.

  • Appearance: A unique perennial onion that produces clusters of small, edible bulbils at the top of its flower stalks. These bulbils, often called "topsets," are what give the plant its "walking" name, as they can drop to the ground and root, forming new plants. The leaves are long and slender, similar to chives.

The root ball of a blackberry bush is a dense, fibrous mass of roots that anchors the plant and absorbs water and nutrients from the soil. It is typically wider than it is deep and can be quite extensive, especially in well-established plants.

  • Dig a hole: Make it twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep.
  • Loosen roots: Gently tease out any circling roots at the edges of the root ball.
  • Place in hole: Set the root ball, ensuring the top is level with the ground.
  • Backfill: Fill the hole with the excavated soil, gently firming it around the root ball.
  • Water thoroughly: Water deeply to settle the soil and hydrate the plant.
